Il Forum Musicale

The European Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra "Il Forum musicale" was created as a long-term project in the context of the European Capital of Culture Esch2022. The orchestra is composed of 40 musicians from all over Europe bringing together professional musicians and the best students from European music conservatories in order to work on an original and demanding repertoire.

"Il Forum musicale" is particularly aimed at young musician in order to offer them a unique experience and to support the musical training of future professional artists.

Sharing of the European spirit and values: Through its international composition the orchestra enables the musicians to get to know other cultures and forge close ties of friendship across the European continent. In this way the European Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra also contributes to a better understanding of Europe's multicultural diversity.

• There will be 2 work phases in 2025:

• From 16th to 18th May 2025 in Saarbrücken (Germany)
  
• From 14th to 16th November 2025 in Esch/Alzette (Luxembourg)
  

• Accommodation: youth hostel in Saarbrücken / Esch-sur-Alzette.

• Intense rehearsals in orchestra and by instrumental section.

• Conductor for the season 2025: Ivan Boumans
  

• Diversified musical repertoire: baroque, classical, romantic, contemporary, ...

• At the end of each work phase a concert of the European Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra will be organized.

• Advanced musical level and orchestral experience.

• Open to professionals, students and students of higher conservatories, municipal conservatories, and music schools in the European Community.

• Open to all EU citizens and students studying within the European Union.

• Fair representation of each EU Member State (dependent on the registrations).

• Age limit: minimum 18 years.

• Interest in meeting other European musicians and cultures.

• The musicians who register for the European Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra commit themselves to participate at the 2 work phases, as well as at all the concerts planned at the end of each work phase in 2025.

• Accommodation and full board will be provided by the organizer.

• A concert will be organized during each work phase.

Applications will be accepted depending on the total number and the required level. We reserve the right to refuse certain applications.

You will receive an email confirming your application as soon as possible.

The scores will be sent to you in advance so that you can work on them beforehand. You are expected to have practiced your part before coming to the 1st work phase.
